GDPR Compliance
GDPR stands for the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation.
GDPR is the result of years of work to bring data protection regulation in line with how data is currently used. The previous regulations were created in the 1990’s – so have fallen out of date in recent years. GDPR came into force in May of 2018 and has changed how businesses and public sector organisations manage their customer’s information and details.
GDPR applies to all ‘controllers’ and ‘processors’ of data. A data controller for example, controls how and why personal data is processed, whilst the processor actually implements and records such data. The result for non-compliance with GDPR includes strict fines.
Compliance with GDPR includes:
- Extended Jurisdiction
- Consent
- Mandatory Breach Notification·
- Right to Access
- Right to be forgotten
- Data Portability
- Privacy by Design
- Data Protection officers
