Providing a new converged communication platform for the UK’s largest electricity generator, British Energy
16th December 2019
The Challenge
When British Energy, the UK’s largest electricity generator required a new communications platform at their Hunterston Nuclear Power Station to support multiple applications including video, data, IT, security and access control across their network, they turned to Tellemachus as their preferred outsourcing partner.
The Solution
Following consultations with the client to fully understand their requirements, Tellemachus undertook the design specification and implementation of a new converged communications platform capable of supporting multi-applications. This also included the project management of sub-contractors who undertook the structure cable installation, whereby new copper and fibre was installed throughout all locations as well as off-site to a pump station several miles away which was also part of the network.
Tellemachus personnel undertook the testing of the new system before handing the project back to the onsite support team. All aspects of the project were undertaken during the live day-to-day operations making the project even more so challenging.
The Benefits
- Single consolidated communications platform running multiple applications
- Economical savings made by maintaining one solution rather than disparate systems
- Single platform allows for easier management – moves and changes can be performed more easily
- Resilient and robust solution
